Miami Dolphins NFL Pro Football 2010 Regular Season Win Betting Odds Projection - July 26th, 2010

The past two NFL seasons have been a tale of two teams for the Miami Dolphins.

In 2008, the Dolphins won 11 times and made the NFL Playoffs, although their postseason was cut short when they got bounced 27-9 by the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round.

In 2009, Miami opened and closed the season with three straight losses, wound up with a 7-9 SU record and missed the playoffs.

Going into training camp this week, the Dolphins will have youngster Chad Henne as their starting quarterback. Chad Pennington began last season as Miami’s starter, but suffered a shoulder injury against the San Diego Chargers on Sept. 27 and did not return during the season.

Henne seemed to get better as the season went on, passing for 2878 yards with 12 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, and the Dolphins have high hopes for him in the 2010 campaign.

In particular, Henne seemed to get a better grasp of the Dolphins’ wildcat offense, which helped Miami finish fourth in the NFL in rushing, averaging 139.4 yards per game. The team was also fourth in the league in the red zone, scoring touchdowns 61.1% of the time.

As well, the offense was boosted by a stellar season from veteran running back Ricky Williams, who had 1121 yards on an average of 4.7 yards per carry with 11 touchdowns.

Williams is back this season and will share the RB duties with Ronnie Brown. Brown has struggled with injuries, missing seven games in 2009, nine games in the 2007 season and three games in the 2006 season. But when healthy, Brown would be a solid starter on a lot of teams: Before a season-ending injury last season, he had 648 yards rushing on 147 carries for a 4.4 yards a carry average.

Miami did struggle on defense, however, particularly in the secondary against the pass. The Dolphins gave up an average of 234.6 yards per game through the air, which put them 24th in the NFL.

Sportsbooks have Miami’s 2010 season win total projection at 8.5, with the over at -120 odds and the under at -110. In NFL Futures, the Dolphins are at 30-1 odds to win Super Bowl XLV.

Bodog sportsbook has the Dolphins at 16-1 to win the AFC Championship and +325 moneyline odds to win the AFC East division.

Taking a look at the Dolphins 2010 regular-season schedule, the AFC East team has home and road games against each of its division rivals: New York Jets, New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills.

In the 2010 season, the AFC East plays the AFC North and NFC North, meaning home games against the AFC North’s Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, with road trips to the Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore Ravens.

NFC North opponents are the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions at home, and the Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers on the road.

And with a third-place finish last season, the will face the two other AFC third place teams: a home tilt against the Tennessee Titans, and a road game at the Oakland Raiders.

Miami will get the spotlight in three prime time games in 2010: at home against the New York Jets on Sunday night football, and the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night football; and on the road against the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football.

Miami gets its bye week in week 5.
